MedTec School
This course, held in English, is offered by Humanitas University in agreement with POLITECNICO of Milan. It is characterized by the integration between a degree in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.
This new professional figure will be able to fully understand and consciously manage the advanced technologies that characterize the medical profession and to apply an increasingly personalized medicine using systems of high technological complexity for the treatment, clinical evaluation of patients and diagnosis.
Students will also be able to optimize therapeutic results with particular attention to the potential of data analysiscs and machine learning techniques, as well as the use of new materials and advanced therapeutic devices such as surgical robots, endoprostheses, biostamps and 3D prints.
Graduates will be able to find employment not only in the sectors of the medical profession and research, but also in the industrial sectors that operate in the design of biomedical devices and technologies or in the pharmaceutical sector.
On September 6th , the entrance test carried out by Humanitas University in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano will take place. It will be a multiple-choice test, entirely in English. The questions will include questions of mathematics, verbal logic, physics, chemistry, biology, technical-scientific culture. The test aims to capture the aptitude of candidates to study both subjects typical of engineering and life sciences typical of medicine.

A specific training offer for MedTec School
The training of these doctors will be characterized by the emphasis placed on the acquisition of technical-scientific skills enhanced compared to those of traditional medical training.
The integrated six-year training course provides for the acquisition of 30 additional CFUs that will allow graduates to obtain the Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, immediately after the release of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery by Humanitas.
In the first 3 years of the course, the first semesters will be held at the Politecnico di Milano and the second at Humanitas University. This organization allows the student to experience the contamination between medical and engineering knowledge from the beginning of the course. In the next three years, mainly dedicated to clinical training, the teaching activity will be organized at Humanitas University for both frontal lessons and professionalizing activities. This three-year period includes monodisciplinary courses and integrated courses, held by both Politecnico and Humanitas teachers. In some courses the teachers of the two universities will be co-present in the classroom to ensure the full integration of skills. The same approach of co-tutoring will be adopted also for some of the professionalizing activities typical of the preparation of the doctor.
The characteristics of the course
The course, accordingly with the approach of Humanitas University and Politecnico di Milano, uses interactive methodologies (such as Research-Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Case Method and portfolio of skills), with the aim of ensuring a solid integration between the theoretical concepts and the more properly practical and professional aspects necessary to develop an autonomous and critical reasoning ability.
The Course provides:
-
A higher level of in-depth study of the basic subjects that are already part of the training of the physician (chemistry, physics, statistics, computer science), typical of the preparation of a biomedical engineer.
-
A greater attention to the acquisition of the necessary skills to deal with issues related to precision medicine and regenerative medicine.
-
The integration of pre-clinical and clinical preparation with related teachings (such as mathematical analysis, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanics, etc..) useful to build a solid basic engineering training giving future graduates of the course skills that make them able to address complex issues in the field of applications of technology and information analysis to medicine.
-
The inclusion in the educational path of methodologies and technologies typical of biomedical engineering in order to facilitate a cross-fertilisation between medical training and basic engineering training.
-
An innovative approach to doctor-patient interaction that allows to make the most of the potential offered by technologies and intelligent systems for the optimization of machine-patient interaction and for the customization of therapies and continuity of care.
